Wave Study Bible

14 Oct

It doesn’t take long to discover that not every Bible app available through the iTunes store is truly useful… or easy to use.  If you’ve gotten tired of downloading programs only to find that you need an internet connection to make best use of them or discover that the text of the Scripture is overwhelmed by excessive commentary, then the Wave Study Bible is for you!

Simple and intuitive, the Wave Study Bible provides you with a convenient way to go in depth as you compare Scripture translations side-by-side.  The app comes preloaded with the King James, the Greek New Testament, the New English Translation, and the GOD’s WORD translation (other translations are available for purchase).  Transition from one version to the next with a simple swipe of the screen.

See a word you want to study deeper?  Tap it and you’ll be granted access to the app’s lexicon – a wealth of information on Hebrew and Greek word-origins that’s guaranteed to help clarify the meaning of those tricky passages.

Concerned about trying to find the right passage in a hurry?  Tired of trying to correctly spell “Revelation” with that teeny-tiny keyboard?  The Wave Study Bible utilizes scroll system instead – allowing you to select your book, chapter, and verse with a slide of your finger!

Perhaps the best feature of this app, though, is its easy-to-view font.  Placed against a vibrant background, the passage you select is highlighted for easier viewing.  A quick pinch of the screen reduces font size while the opposite motion expands it, making the text easy-to-read regardless of the quality of the ambient light or your own visual limitations!

A simple app, the Wave Study Bible is sure to be one of your favorites!

JP Unreached and Joshua Project Languages

2 Sep

The world is a vast place, so it should come as no surprise that of the 16,650 distinct people groups recognized today, there are well over 7,000 that remain untouched by the good news of the Gospel.  These groups, representing 2.9 billion people and nearly 40% of the world’s population live their lives in isolation – both from others and from the message of God’s love.  While not every one of us is called to serve one of these groups in a missionary capacity, each of us can play a part in their future through the power of prayer.  And that’s where this week’s featured resources, the JP Unreached and the Joshua Project Languages mobile apps, can help.

Available to iOS, Android, and Google users, the JP Unreached app provides profiles for 366 of the most critical people groups.  These are the cultures which, if reached, have the greatest potential for carrying the Gospel message to the surrounding areas and are, therefore, of greatest concern.  Through this unique app, you’ll be provided with access to statistics on each group’s population, language and religion, as well as an introduction to their history and culture.  Each day’s entry contains information about obstacles that stand in the way of missionary efforts as well as prayer prompts to help you decide how best to intercede both for those who have yet to be reached and those who seek to reach them.  You can even set a “reminder” function, so you don’t forget your prayer commitment!

Looking for the stats on a language group not included in this app?  Then check out Joshua Project Languages!  Listed both by country and by language name, this comprehensive record links users to resources for tongues both living and dead – offering statistics, vocal recordings, and access to excellent evangelism materials ranging from the written word (including Bibles and gospel tracts) to audio-visual aides like the “Jesus Film”.  It’s a great app for anyone interested in world missions and comes highly recommended.

Pick up both apps today and you’ll be well on your way to both understanding the needs of the world’s unreached people groups… and making a difference in their lives!

Got Questions

19 Aug

Got questions?  Most of us do.  And while the answers to some questions aren’t all that important (like whether the fuzzy thing in the fridge is a kiwi or a moldy plum), others can make the difference between life and death, Heaven and Hell.  That’s why GotQuestions.org exists!  A non-denominational volunteer ministry, GotQuestions.org seeks to answer the questions of both Christian believers and spiritual seekers in a way that accurately and fully represents the Biblical view.

Starting with “Crucial Questions”, the site carefully lays out Christian doctrine as it has been passed down through the centuries answering questions like “Does God Exist?”, “Is There Life After Death?”, and “Is Jesus the Only Way to Heaven?”.  Through a series of concise, easy-to-read answers, GotQuestions.org explains the core beliefs which bind us together as followers of Christ.

But just as there are similarities, there are also differences.  While Christians all subscribe to the same views of God, man, sin, and salvation, we don’t always see eye-to-eye on everything else.  Embracing the belief, “In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, and in all things charity”, the site labors to answer questions like, “Should a Christian Woman Wear a Bikini?”, “Should a Christian Play Video Games?”, and “Is it Wrong to Want to Be Famous?”.  You’ll find answers to questions on topics ranging from relationships to the End Times, so take some time to sit down and explore!

Want to take the site with you when you head to school, work, or the gym?  Why not download the GotQuestions app for iOS or Android?  You’ll have all of the features of the website right at your fingertips – providing the right answers at the right time!  Don’t like reading?  Why not check out the GotQuestions podcast. You’ll hear the same great Biblical advice seen on the website in an easy-to-use collection of 2-5 minute episodes!

However you choose to get your answers (and regardless of your status as a Christian or a seeker), you’re sure to find GotQuestions.org to be an excellent resource!  So check it out today!

Through the Word

5 Aug

James 1:23-25 reminds us that, “if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.”  (NASB)  Obviously, the first step to doing is remembering… and for most of us, remembering requires focused study.  That why, this week, we’re featuring the ministry of “Through the Word” – a group of pastor’s dedicated to helping Christians develop a daily habit of study and thoughtful application.

Each day, Through the Word posts a 10 minute audio guide focused on a single chapter of Scripture.  These guides aren’t a deep Bible commentary, but they do help prepare listeners to carefully consider the lessons to be learned as they read the day’s passage.  Users are then encouraged to follow up both the audio material and the printed Word with time spent in contemplation and fellowship with God.

Download the Android or IOS app and you’ll be provided with a special forum for recording your thoughts on the day’s passage and tracking your progress as you read God’s Word.   Take notes on your favorite verses from the day’s reading, record messages that God has shared with you, and write out your plans for putting them into action in your daily life.  There’s even a place to store your Scripture-prompted prayers!  And if you don’t like typing out your observations, the app gives you an opportunity to make voice recordings, instead!

Looking to start with a specific book?  Check out the Bible section of the website and you’ll have the opportunity to begin your journey anywhere you please!  Get started today and become a doer of the word, not just a hearer!

Most Christians agree that time in the Bible is time well spent.  But what do you do if reading just isn’t your thing?  Do you just give up and ingest whatever you can from a few weekly sermons and a Sunday School class?  Hardly!  Throughout the world today, there are millions of believers who struggle with the same fundamental issues – lack of time to read, disinterest in the written word, or the simple inability to read well. That’s why, in this week’s installment of the iPod Evangelist, we’re featuring the perfect app for every non-reader: the Daily Audio Bible.
